| Resumo | The purpose of this research is to explore a high spatial resolution image of QuickbBird-2 satellite for intra-urban analysis to understand the socio-spatial inequality in the residential zone of the city São José dos Campos. The residential zone is used to connect economical, social and political dimensions, in order to verify the corresponding spatial stratification. In the Brazilian territory, such stratification can be observed in different residential areas showing the social space division and also the socio-spatial inequality. The inequality has been studied based, primarily on secondary and field survey data. The starting point to characterize the socio-spatial differentiation, in our project, are the elements present in the residential area like Plot size, Vegetation cover, High density plot occupation, Types of roofs, Swimming pools, among others. The technological innovations in the remote sensing area are considered as instruments which allow the classification and measurement of such differentiation elements.The concept of object image analysis (OBIA) was applied to map some elements while the visual interpretation and cross tabulation was done to find others. The results obtained allowed to know the distribution of the differentiation elements and to identify patterns in residential areas that also correspond to the form on how the social class occupies the space. This study showed that the high spatial resolution satellite images contribute with new forms of producing information at the intra-urban scale, as well as new possibilities. | |||
